There
aren’t many older Canadian stamps that are well centered. Those
that have large borders are usually slightly or completely off center.
Some people generously call these latter stamps “winged stamps”.
Here are some examples of the typical borders we see in auction catalogues:

But
there is another category altogether called “jumbos”.
This refers to stamps that are both well centered and have extra large
borders. They stand out in any auction sale and they usually command
high premiums.
We
have put together a small collection of these for our viewers. To
get these examples, we reviewed quite a few old catalogues. We did
this not only for this article because of the fun of discovery. What’s
typical about Canada’s early stamps is that it is often difficult
to find them with even borders of any size. So that to find them with
large even jumbo borders is a rare find.
