The
Large Queen issue was first introduced in Canada in 1868. Even though
the Small Queen stamps began to appear in 1870, a number of the Large
Queens continued to be used well after that date. For example, the 5¢
Large Queen was only issued in 1875. It was replaced a year later by
the 5¢ Small Queen. The 15¢ Large Queen was, of course, used
well after 1870 and was not replaced.
Many,
if not most, Canadian collectors will have copies of Large Queens in
their collections. But these will often be used, off center, heavily
cancelled and have uneven perforations. It is rare to find very fine,
well centered copies, especially amongst the mint stamps.
This
amazing collection contained many of the finest single examples of the
Large Queens we have seen. It included a wide range of varieties in
outstanding condition.
